These are the moments you don’t want to forget.

“Top Ten Wedding Photographer in the World”

-American Photo Magazine

I don’t know how memory works.

I only know this: honest photographs are magic.

They are time travel machines. They are our griots. They are magicians.

Telling true stories is my superpower. When I share these images with my subjects, they get to live twice their moments twice and, in these images, they live forever.

So here are some of the moments I can’t forget. More importantly, here are some of the stories that the people in these moments will never forget. Long after the cake and flowers are in the waste bin, these moments live on.

If these images resonate, if they make you feel the way your own memories feel,

contact me and let’s talk. I’d love for you to see yourself like that.

- Ash

On your twentieth or fiftieth wedding anniversary, you may forget what the cake tasted like, the flowers you carried, or which songs you danced to. But these photographs of your loved ones and the moments you shared will stay with you. Let’s make it count.

Each Wedding Package includes eight hours of wedding day coverage, a personalized online gallery, and ownership of your edited hi-res wedding images.

 FAQs

  • As a memoir photographer, I seek to tell the truth about moments lived once and only once. I want you to hold an image in your hands and for it to feel like it felt. I want each photograph to remind you of the way the light fell, the smell in the room, the thump of your heart beating in your chest. I want my presence to be as delightfully non-invasive as possible. Even though I am photographer, I don’t think weddings have anything to do with wedding photographs. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in the power of an image more than just about anything, but you will still marry your soul mate no matter what the photos look like.

    I am not the point.

    You are the point.

Your connection to your partner is the point. The people you love and belong to are the point. Where you come from and where you are going is the point. I simply show up as a witness to help you be present and live fully into those moments. Most of the time that means encouraging you to ignore me and be where your feet are. Any direction I lend will always bring you back to the act of being present. That, after all, is the secret to the very best photographs.

  • One of my favorite pictures on my wall is a posed photograph of my grandmother and her seven sisters along with their parents and their partners. When I look at a strong posed family portrait, I see a legacy unfolding. Because of this, I believe in the documentary power of a good posed family portrait where everyone is facing the camera and the history of a family or group is captured. I also believe this should be the easiest and fastest portion of the day and that no one should miss out on dinner or time with loved ones for photographs, so all posed gatherings are quick and painless, usually lasting no longer than 15 minutes.

  • I think the time you spend with just your partner on your wedding day can be some of the best, most restorative time. Because each couple is different, your needs are different. My job is to guide you toward what you value. For me, “portrait time” doesn’t exist. Connection exists. Time to laugh and catch up and catch your breath exists. Any portraits we make will be in the backdrop of your personalities and your comfort level. But, again, these photos do not take long.

  • All of us know that weekends are precious territory when it comes to booking wedding vendors. This is why I offer a weekday wedding option for Monday through Thursday in the Kansas City area for a reduced rate. Questions? Reach Out using the form below!

  • While I have priced my packages to be accessible and to fit the budgets of most couples, I understand that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances (like a weekday wedding or a shorter event) where price may need to fluctuate. Bottom line, if you resonate with the work, contact me and I will do all I can to work with you.

  • For a retainer, half of the package price is required for booking and, along with a contract, reserves me as your photographer. The remaining balance is due one month before your wedding.

  • I have been a full time photographer for fifteen years. In that amount of time I have photographed hundreds of weddings all over the world, taught at dozens of workshops and conferences and been named one of the Top Ten Wedding Photographers in the World.

  • Typically for an eight hour wedding, I will deliver anywhere from 600 to 1400 edited, high resolution images. It all depends on the specifics of the day as well as how large the wedding is.

  • After fifteen years in the industry, I have taught hundreds of wedding photographers at workshops and conferences. Because of this, I have a massive network of talented photographers that I happily refer work to when I am booked. So you will be taken care of no matter what.

Start the conversation…

I do.

I knew that the kids were important. When Jonas Peterson and Jacqui invited us to their wedding in Gotland, Sweden, one of the most magical parts was that their two sons would be witnessing the whole thing. So I pulled one of the boys aside with an audio recorder and hit the red button to see what he’d say…

Vow Renewal.

What happens when life doesn’t turn out the way you planned? When the person you married changes in ways you never could have seen coming? Sometimes you say goodbye. Sometimes you start again, start another marriage, with the same person a second time around. This is what Steve and Michelle Ruetschle did.

Motherhood.

You never know what someone else’s life looks like, what’s happening behind front doors and at dining room tables, until they invite you inside. Stephanie and her three kids opened their door to me and what I found was beyond magical. It was proof that love can’t be contained in a house, only in the walls of a mother’s heart. It also proved that Stephanie and her kids have stellar dance moves…

Birth.

Dean August arrived in the world surrounded by warm, orange light and the glowing love of his parents.

Nice to meet you.

My friends call me Ash. My kids call me Mommy. My parents called me Little Bird. When I got in trouble as a kid, I was Ashley Rebekah. In ten years, I don’t need you to remember my name. I just want you to remember how the moments I captured for you felt. But if you’d like to read more about me, my career, and my fancy pants awards, click below.
